Take the tests and fulfil your lifelong ambition of wearing the white coat and serving  humanity  by saving precious lives. NCLEX and MCAT are two of the most widely acclaimed testing schemes in the medical field and are the basis for getting admitted into any undergraduate program related to these fields. Below is an explanation of what these tests are, and how you can score big on them with the help of Kaplan Test Prep.

 NCLEX Testing System

NCLEX is an abbreviation for “National Council Licensure Examination”. It is a testing scheme which is centered in the U.S. but is used globally for the licensing of nurses. The scheme was established in the U.S. back in 1995 and has spread out into Europe and other parts of the globe quite recently. NCLEX examination is taken by a student who has graduated from a school of nursing. Passing the exam gives the individual the permission to practice the art of nursing. The test is further divided into two categories which are NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse) and NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse).

Though the contents of the exams themselves keep on changing with respect to the advancement in the field of medical science. The overall theme of the paper can be observed as follows:

  • Safe and Effective Care of the Environment
  • Health Promotion and Maintenance
  • Psychosocial Integrity
  • Physiological Integrity

All these categories are further subdivided as well. The total time for the test is 6 hours though there is a compulsory break after the first 2 hours and 30 minutes as well as an optional break after the 4 hour mark.

MCAT Testing System

MCAT stands for Medical College Admission Test and is the most popular testing scheme for all students who are willing to enter the field of medical science. It is a test for getting administered in the undergraduate program and is taken by students immediately after graduating from their college or high schools. The test is a type of “Computer Based Standardized Examination”, though in some countries it is also taken on paper. Whatever be the case, the basic theme and the concept of the test remains uniform throughout the world.

The test covers three basic concepts that are Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Verbal Reasoning. The test was started in 1928 in the U.S. and is now offered more than 30 times in an academic year. The results obtained in the exams are also valid for a period of 2 – 3 years however the condition is that a student can’t take the test more than three times. After the third attempt is made, the best of three scores is considered final till its expiration date. Students can score a total of 472 – 528 marks depending on the region they are taking the test in. All the four sections also have the same weightage (i.e. 118 – 132 points).
