GRE Preparation Through Kaplan

GRE is an abbreviation for Graduate Record Examination, and as stated earlier ,it is the basis for pursuing a master's or a doctoral degree in the fields related to science. The basic testing categories of the test include Analytical Writing, Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning. It is either taken on a computer or on paper depending upon the area in which you are taking the test.

The test was started in 1949 in the U.S. as a means to standardize testing for graduate programs and has since become the norm for the rest of  the world, being currently followed in over 160 countries. The tests are offered at least 3 times a year (In October, November and February) and the score obtained is valid for a maximum period of 5 years.

The scoring scheme of the test is quite un-common, as the maximum score of 170 can be achieved even if all the questions are not answered by a student. Likewise, a student who refuses to attempt even a single question will still get a score of 130 out of the maximum 170. The percentile out of 100% is then calculated for the student for them to know their relative standing.

Kaplan Test Prep offers a free practice GRE test on their official website which is quite useful for students who wish to sit for the GRE  soon. Also offered on the website are three tutoring schemes:

  • Live Online – Become part of an online classroom from the comfort of your home.
  • In Person – Learn at a classroom located near your home.
  • Private Tutoring – Learn from a private Kaplan trained instructor in your own home.

GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission test and like GRE, it is aimed at graduate students; the difference being that GMAT focuses on students going into the field of business management rather than practical sciences. The basic categories of the test are Quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, integrated reasoning and analytical writing. The test is offered multiple times a year depending upon your region.

The test lasts for a total of 3 hours and 30 minutes with a highest score of 200 – 800 to be achieved (according to region). It is currently offered in about 114 countries all over the world. The score obtained by an individual in GMAT is valid for 5 years.

Students can take help from Kaplan Test Prep to prepare for GMAT.
